January 2001
Happy New Year!

The New Year brings us a busy calendar of Lions related events as our club moves forward to a successful year. Here’s what’s coming up:

January 3, 2001 – Lion’s Meeting at AMF New Berlin

Sunday, January 7, 2001 – Volunteers are needed to work the little mini-bonspiel (that’s curling talk for tournament) for our own teams and several other Lions Clubs at Kettle Moraine Curling Club. Time is 8:00a.m. to 3:00 p.m.. If you’ve never curled, don’t miss this opportunity!

January 12, 13, 14, 2001 – State Bonspiel at Centerville, Wisconsin. Two teams are already committed, and we have reserved rooms for one more team, so let Lion Ken Matheson know at the first meeting in January.

January 17, 2001 – A Special Lions Meeting to talk about the future of our club, membership recruitment and maintenance. Everyone’s input is requested, so don’t miss out. This is your chance to share your views with the rest of the members.

    5450 S. Moorland Road
    New Berlin, WI.

January 19, 20, 21, 2001 – District 27A-1 Convention in Lake Geneva. We need volunteers to attend and make a special presentation regarding our club’s new fund-raiser, that’s Bocci-ball or those who have not been to several meetings. It’s also known as Lawn Bowling in the suburbs.

Saturday, July 28, 2001 – Spike for Sight Volley Ball fund-raiser.

So get involved, contribute to your club, Lionism, and your community. Let’s bring renewed vigor and personal commitment to our Club’s activities, and we and our community are sure to be big winners!

Bocci-ball History

The earliest reference to the above sport in the minutes of our club was 1998. However, among friends and just about everywhere else, Lion Del has been talking this up since before inflatable tires were invented (most likely by that former pretender to the presidency), or so it seems.

Lion Del learned from Wisconsin school boards, that if at first you don’t succeed, bring it up again, and again, and again, and again. Lion Del followed this example to a T. Finally, at the first meeting in December, our club voted “Yae” to a bocci-ball fund-raiser among District 27 A-1 Lions Clubs. Wow, Lion Del even got the District Governor excited enough to allow for a presentation at the upcoming District Convention. Or did Lion Del talk to him again, and again, and again. Well you know what I mean!

Anyway, the anonymous editor asks all club members to congratulate Lion Del for his stick-to-it-tifness. Let’s all work together to make this another successful club event. By working together we can make our club a real force in the New Berlin community!

Please Return the Survey!

On the back of this newsletter you will find a survey asking your opinion on how our club should function. The survey will help Jerry Louward to facilitate our second meeting in January, where we hope to find a new direction for our club’s deliberations. So please, give the survey some thought, then bring it to the January 3rd meeting, or mail it to:

Thanks in advance for your valuable input.
