Minutes of the New Berlin Industrial Lions Club

The regular meeting of the New Berlin Industrial Lions Club, held at AMF Recreation Center, New Berlin, on Wednesday, September 19th, 2001, was called to order by President Lion John Tews at 12:15 p.m. and followed by the Pledge of Allegiance, the singing of America, and table grace. The minutes of the previous meeting were accepted as printed. There were 14 Lions present.

Old Business -A copy of the committee assignments was handed out. Discussion occurred on the topic of increasing membership. It was suggested by Lion Ken Matheson that an organized distribution of small American Flags within the Industrial Park along with Club information might be a worthwhile recruitment effort. The flags would cost the club $1.20 at discount. Concern was raised about the number of folks it would take to distribute the information and the flags. Would it be better to have flags that can be attached to cars, or should we enlist High School Students to help? The idea was lauded but the practicality of visitations on a timely basis was pointed out as a concern. The Bocce Ball Tournament was again discussed and a scheduling of the different tournaments came up. It was decided that there would be support for the Lion's District tournament. Although the first tournament lost $500, now that the capital equipment was paid for, it probably would be a fundraiser. It was agreed that this tournament would be our first focus. It was moved, seconded and unanimously voted on that the Club would sponsor a 2nd annual Lions Bocce Ball Tournament within the first Quarter of 2002. It was then moved and seconded that if a least $2000 was raised at the Lions Tournament, the Club would commit to an open tournament to be scheduled in the Fall, 2002. The motion passed with one vote opposed.

Old Business -Discussion continued on the idea of changing the Club's name. It was suggested a change from Industrial Lions Club to the New Berlin Business Lions Club. A motion to form a committee to study the idea was made, but then withdrawn with no further action on the topic.

There was a tail twister's raffle won by Lion Dave Dunn. The meeting was adjourned at 1:26 p.m.

Respectfully submitted by Lion Secretary Ted Wysocki
