Minutes of the New Berlin Industrial Lions Club

The regular meeting of the New Berlin Industrial Lions Club, held at AMF Recreation Center, New Berlin, on Wednesday, October 3rd, 2001, was called to order by President Lion John Tews at 12:15 p.m. and followed by the Pledge of Allegiance, the singing of America, and table grace. The minutes of the previous meeting were accepted as printed. There were 15 Lions present.

Communications - A letter from Ron Beck was read requesting that he be dropped from membership due to business commitments. A meeting agenda copy was handed out

Old Business - Discussion continued on the idea of changing the Club's name. It was suggested a change from Industrial Lions Club to the New Berlin Business Lions Club or New Berlin Lions Noon Club. Issues of costs associated with the name change (Charter, clothing, pamphlets, Spike for sight banners etc.), and the probability that "Industrial" no longer reflects the majority of business activities within the Park were brought up in the debate. Motion to end to debate was made and seconded but defeated. Discussion continued on the topic. Motion made to change the clubs name was made and seconded but failed to pass.

Lion President Tews and Lion Bob Fellenz described their experience of visiting businesses. At least 20 minutes was the length of a visit and out of six visits, three indicated an interest in attending a meeting. The businesses were financial institutions and a healthcare provider. This is an indication of the work involved and the potential results that could be achieved if membership recruitment efforts were of this type.

Lion Gerry Louward indicated that there were not enough Club lion members to have a full 27A1 bowling Lions team. However, there were four members who could make a commitment and Lion Louward could recruit a bowler to fill out the team. It was decided to move ahead on this arrangement.

Discussion on Bocce Ball Lions Tournament suggested that a date in March or April at the VFW be arranged. Lion Bob Fellenz would follow through with the arrangements at the VFW. Discussion again on getting the advertisement out on the event and our obligations to support other Lions Clubs if we want them to support our activities concluded this topic.

With regards to previous discussions on our Club's interest in providing support to the 9/11 victims and families, it was moved, seconded and unanimously supported that a contribution of $1000.00 be sent to the appropriate New York Lion's Club involved in the support efforts related to the tragedy.

New Business - It was moved, seconded and unanimously approved to accept the Treasurer's report. There was a tail twister's raffle won by Lions Tim Haase and Ted Wysocki, birthday raffle won by Lion Tim Brehm and Jack Winter.

The meeting was adjourned at 1:28 p.m.

Respectfully submitted by Lion Secretary Ted Wysocki
